investigative reporter Peter Lance reflected on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and celebrated the heroism of the legendary FDNY Fire Marshall and Green Beret, Ronnie Bucca. Lance considers Bucca to be the Paul Revere of the War on Terror, as he warned that Islamic radicals tied to the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993 would come back to try and finish the job. Bucca believed the War on Terror was a kind of 1,000-year-old grudge match dating back to attacks on Muslim castles during the Crusades. Bucca uncovered that Ahmed Amin Refai, an Egyptian employee of the FDNY, acted as a bodyguard for Omar Abdel-Rahmam, known as the 'Blind Sheikh.'
Refai had obtained plans to the World Trade Center prior to the first bombing, and Bucca presented this information to the New York office of the FBI but was ignored. It was "one of the many...disconnected dots on the road to 9-11," Lance noted. Just after the 9-11 tower attacks, Bucca raced to the scene in a fire engine and made it up to the 78th floor, where he "died with his boots on." He had lent his coat to help someone with smoke inhalation on the floor. Lance has posted a tribute to Ronnie Bucca on his website.about 911
